This module, which is designed to remove the CFC replacement substance R 600a, is the perfect complement to SEG's CFC evacuation facility. Since1993, the refrigerant known as R 600a has been used in refrigerators and freezers as anenvironmentally benign replacement for the CFC R 12, which has proved to be so detrimental to the Earth's ozone layer. R 600a has no significant effect on stratospheric ozone and has a low global warming potential relative to CO2.

Nevertheless, because R 600a is flammable and explosive, it too must be carefully removed from refrigerator and freezer appliances that are being demanufactured at the end of their serviceable life. SEG has developed a special evacuation module for just this purpose. The module permits the loss-freerecovery and separation of the mixture of compressor oil and R 600a refrigerant from the appliance's cooling circuit. The oil that is recovered isthen reprocessed in the conventional manner whilst the refrigerant is diluted with ambient air and then harmlessly discharged.
